Harold Remlinger, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB

Harold has actively worked in the fields of Architecture and Construction for over 22 years and credits his knowledge obtained through a balance of theory and practical hands-on experience. As a Michigan and Florida licensed architect and Michigan licensed builder, Harold has designed, developed and observed the successful completion of a multitude of residential and commercial projects varying in scale and complexity. Harold is committed to providing design excellence through versatile, creative and research based approach to design-oriented problem-solving with distinct emphasis on the individual customer. Currently Harold collaborating with Progress Energy (Florida's electrical provider), is remotely monitoring daily power production/consumption of a custom fully-sustainable residence, making recommendations and directing sub-contractors to further increase the homes energy efficiency. As the project architect for this home, Harold was able to achieve a negative nine HERS rating. The home has won 5 Aurora Awards including two Grand Auroras for Energy Efficiency and Green Construction, it is certified Water Star Gold, and received an impressive 248 points from the Florida Green Building Coalition.

Harold's teaching philosophy involves providing high quality, broad-based academic direction and leadership. As an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University, Harold acted as a primary consultant in the development of the LTU Aloeterra 2007 Solar Decathlon competition home. Working alongside students, Harold directed the implementation of sustainable design solutions and participated in the physical assembly of the home in Washington DC and at its final installation on the grounds of the Troy Community Center in Troy, Michigan. He currently monitors the homes renewable energy equipment and conducts tours of the home and its solutions. As the professor of the Allied Design: Sustainable Architecture studio, Harold along with his students conducted interviews and sustainable site analysis to develop and program a new sustainable multi-use, multi-family, mixed-income building for Habitat for Humanity Oakland County. Currently Harold’s Architectural Design 7; Typology studio, is working with the Detroit Edison Public School Academy in Detroit to program and design their new Lean Green High School. Both of these projects results are/will be use to facilitate fundraising, community involvement, corporate sponsorship and City acceptance.

Harold is an active A.I.A., Detroit USGBC, NCARB, member, and he has spoken to a variety of groups such as Green Team, NARI of Tampa Bay, ASHRAE and Stadium Drive Elementary School on topics relating to sustainability and renewable energy solutions.
